BI Consulting

How Do BI Consulting and Data Analytics Consulting Compare?

At Dataspace, we see BI consulting (business intelligence consulting) as part of our broader data analytics consulting services, but they are not exactly the same thing. If you want to get technical (which we usually do), it’s nearly impossible to do one without some element of the other. That’s because, while data analytics focuses on the technical aspects of collecting, integrating, and analyzing large data sets, business intelligence is the process of creating meaning from the analytics that can be applied to address business needs. As you can see, it’s a bit of a chicken and egg problem. You can’t extract BI insights without analyzing data, and there’s not a lot of value in analyzing data if you don’t care what it means.

Similarly, Fivetran explains the difference between BI and data analytics this way: “Data Analytics involves using statistical and computational methods to extract insights from data sets. In contrast, Business Intelligence involves analyzing and presenting data in a way that helps business leaders make strategic decisions.”

While there are countless and slightly varied definitions of the difference between BI and data analytics, we hope you can see the two are intrinsically linked and both part of an effective data strategy. Our BI consulting services are frequently part of any data analytics engagement we undertake.

Transform your data into to-dos with BI consulting.

At Dataspace, we have been providing business intelligence consulting since 1994. We offer a wide range of business intelligence services as part of our data analytics consulting. Our experienced BI consultants can help you figure out what your business really needs and then build a system that allows you to take advantage of all your data has to offer. And like our other data consulting services, our BI consulting is completely adaptable to your organization’s needs. You can engage us for a full project or part-time advisement, and anything in between.

BI Needs & Capabilities Assessment

As an integral part of our data analytics assessment, we include recommendations for business intelligence. This can include techniques such as data warehousing, reporting, dashboards, and data visualizations., Our analysis can even extend to helping you plan for artificial intelligence.

BI Data Strategy & Planning

Addressing business objectives is foundational to the purpose of BI. As part of a greater data strategy, or an add-on BI-focused plan, we outline where BI tools, such as reporting and dashboards, will bridge the gap between data collection and business decisions.

BI System Design & Implementation

Your raw business data is transformed through analytics into the fuel for your BI engine. We can design and build the models and warehousing solutions that integrate your data to make it usable, then implement the systems needed to produce the reports, dashboards, and visualizations your leadership requires.
